Publisher Marketing: "Call It Science Fiction" is a series of stories about ET's getting involved in the affairs of man. Part 4, The Great Chase is all about an alien getting a first-hand front-row view of racial prejudice through the eyes of a black man. Armed with a gadget that links him to the ELD on board his space ship the alien transforms himself into a black man and gets involved in the life of a young woman. When a CHP officer decides to shake him down he resists making a monkey out of the officer. The chase begins in the low Sierra's with the CHP chasing the alien in a car-jacked car that is best described as a refugee from an auto salvage yard. His driver, the owner of the worn out car is a young woman that soon learns she has nothing to fear. Human nature being such as it is she couldn't help but fall for the arrogant, self-confident, handsome hunk with nerves of steel. What started as a terrifying car-jacking soon became a case of boy meets girl as Tasha was transformed from victim to willing participant. The alien's goal of getting a personal feel for racial prejudice soon had added to it a study of a phenomenon known as gold fever. It was by accident he discovered the human urge to possess the shiny yellow metal. He couldn't resist the temptation to use gold as a lightning rod. Everyone that came in contact with that huge nugget seemed to instantly become infected. The description alone was enough to get three mob families at each other's throats over which Don would have it for his very own. After being pursued across three states by both law enforcement and the mob the chase ends when the hit-man sent by the Chicago Don crashes his muscle car turning it into a rolling ball of fire. The problem wasn't solved. Racial prejudice continues and is likely to continue. There is no known cure for gold fever. So the alien did the best he could do. He tore the page out of the book, threw in away and started all over again. Sure enough the CHP officer given a second chance didn't repeat the mistake of profiling Skyg thus avoiding getting embarrassed again. However, gold fever being incurable and the mob being eternal Skyg did the best he could do and turned the gold nugget along with the gadget over to a fellow ET with a promise to Tasha he would return.
