Innovations in Artificial Intelligence and Human-Computer Interaction in the Digital Era - Intelligent Data-Centric Systems

Human Computer Interaction (HCI) is a multidisciplinary field that focuses on the design of computer technology and the interaction between users and computers in different domains. The main goal of HCI is to make computers easier to use and more helpful to the users or customers. HCI is a broad field, which overlaps with areas, such as User Centered Design (UCD), User Interface (UI) design and User Experience (UX) design. In many ways, HCI is the forerunner to UX design, where designers use a combination of elements with design system software to improve user experience. UX is important as it aims to provide a positive experience, which keep users or customers loyal to a product or brand. Adjacent to this is the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) which is an area of computer science that emphasizes the creation of intelligent machines which work and react like humans - the simulation of intelligent behavior in computers.

Innovations in Artificial Intelligence and Human Computer Interaction in the Digital Era investigates the interaction and growing interdependency of the HCI and AI fields, which are not usually addressed in traditional approaches. It provides a platform for researchers, academics, and other professionals from different backgrounds to present interdisciplinary case studies which bring together HCI and AI. Chapters explore how well AI can interact with users based on linguistics and user centered design processes, especially with the advances of AI and the hype around many applications. Chapters investigate how HCI and AI can mutually benefit from a closer association and the AI community can improve their usage of HCI methods like "Wizard of Oz" prototyping and "Thinking aloud" protocols. Moreover, HCI can further augment human capabilities using new technologies. An interdisciplinary team of HCI and AI researchers can develop extraordinary applications, such as improved education systems, smart homes, smart healthcare, and many more. Chapters present a wide range of concepts and techniques, case studies, open research challenges, and future directions.
