In the Mind, Out of Flesh

Many of you may know Dominick J. DeMarco as the pizzamaker and son of Domenico DeMarco of the original Di Fara Pizzeria in Brooklyn, New York, which has been in business since 1965 (if you want to know about the place's infamous reputation, just google it), but many of you may not have known that he is also a writer of fiction and poetry, as well as working on a series of books based on his experiences within the pizzeria. This poetry book, In the Mind, Out of Flesh, in an analytical way, is about birth, life, and death--but mostly about life, about being alive and realizing it in today's complicated world, and about the contemplation of the imagination. The author's words not only draw you into the observation of a world in which we all share similar emotions, but leads us to remember that the emotions are there. The poems are accompanied by photos taken by the author, depicting scenes that have inspired the poems in this book, with quite a few photos of shore lines. Dominick has deliberately left out the names of the places where the images were photographed, as to not take attention away from the words of the poems, though, if asked, he will tell you they were all from, and around, New York City, a place where he grew up and loves, where he still resides today. The original-art cover, a painting created by the author, is of a mystery person, who may not be a mystery to some, and is very dear to the author. A moment of time stops as the pictures and words strive to stimulate the imagination of the reader, in an attempt to connect to those feelings that we all share, what makes us truly human. This book helps us open the doors, look inside ourselves, as to to let in, as well as let out. Read the acknowledgment page; is it a poem, or is simply the truth, pithy and to the heart. this book is a journey. Take it.
