Starting with the arrival of Africans on America's shores, Caged explores the impact that slavery has had on the African American community. Darks addresses the idea that slavery never truly ended, and continues to thrive in different forms. While raising the question of modern day slavery, Darks expressing her thoughts and opinions on the psychological self and how the past and present external forces still affect the African American community today.
