Male Involvement in Reproductive Health in Bangladesh: a Multilevel Analysis
Mohammad Amirul Islam
A growing consensus has emerged among policy plannersto involve males in the reproductive health (RH) programmes. One reason for this is men?s dominatingrole in the family decision process. This is globallyacknowledged, after the International Conference onPopulation and Development (ICPD) held in Cairo,1994. This book evaluated the status of maleinvolvement in RH in the world context and in theBangladeshi context. In-depth analyses of maleinvolvement in family planning (FP), one of the keycomponents of RH, have been done using BangladeshDemographic and Health Survey (DHS) couple dataset. Aconceptual frame work showing the relationship amongdifferent components of men?s involvement in FP hasbeen proposed. Consistency in reporting ofcontraception by both the spouses has been addressed. Multilevel models have been fitted considering thehierarchical nature of DHS data. This book raisedsome limitations of DHS variables and suggestedappropriate modeling strategies.
