Migration and Relationships of Border Communities: Migration and Conficts in Border Communities

Life is characterised with transitional movements and this is caused mainly by socio-economic and political factors. It was noted that when the migrants reach their destinations there are various socio-economic, political and cultural relationships that will be forged in order for them to sustain life. In this research there are migrants from Mozambique who had settled among the autochthones in Mwanyisa Village after fleeing the civil war in their country of origin and it was noted that various relations emerged. These people had differences on accessing strategic natural resources like land, firewood, and thatch grass among others. Due to these misunderstandings the people from Mozambique and the indigenous people would end up clashing over the control and utilisation of these strategic resources. Basically, these conflicts are based on economic factors or assets that social groups perceive as very important for their survival. Apart from that, there are social conflicts that arise as a result of witchcraft accusations, violations of the girl child rights and alcohol abuse.
