Victor and Victoria (1933)

Aspiring chanteuse Susanne (Renate Müller) agreed to bail out her ailing mentor, drag performer Viktor (Hermann Thimig), by subbing in his act-right down to posing as a man for the closing reveal. Of course, she's an immediate hit-and her keeping up the pretense leads to a bemusing series of romantic entanglements. The basis for the Blake Edwards '82 comedy classic (and other remakes in the interim) co-stars Anton Walbrook, Hilde Hildebrand. 98 min.
