After Dark

Prana Trio is an eclectic ensemble comprised of Brian Adler (Drums), Sunny Kim (Voice & Effects), and Evan Halloin (Bass). The trio's debut album, After Dark, has just been released by Circavision Productions and features pianist Frank Carlberg. In celebration of this release, they were featured on NPR's radio show 'Eric in the Evening,' and on KSFR's Jazz Ho Down. Prana Trio has performed at the Knitting Factory, the Zeitgeist Gallery, the Stinger Bar, the Lizard Lounge, the world renowned Jordan Hall, as well as many other venues on the East Coast. Guests such as guitarist Dave 'Fuze' Fiuczynski of the 'Screaming Headless Torsos' and pianist Ran Blake have joined them in concert. Prana Trio attracts large audiences who are often enthralled by the way in which their music parallels a dreamlike journey as it passes through many different sonic landscapes. From the beginning, one of Prana Trio's main focuses has been to compose songs and take improvisatory departures through the use of ancient sacred texts such as the poetry of Rumi, Hafiz and Lao Tsu. In 2003, Prana Trio was selected by the New England Conservatory to represent them as their Honors Ensemble. Here is what musicians have been saying about Prana Trio: 'Apart from the norm which can be average these days, Brian has put together three very forward thinking individuals. Based on their concept, they are representing the music on the highest level... It's pure musical theater, and that's what we need. The cool jazz days are over...They are taking the listeners on a trip and before they know it, they are on a journey...Sunny sounds like a horn player. Evan is getting an amazing sound out of the bass. Brian is playing at an extremely high conceptual level.' ~Cecil McBee-- Jazz Bassist, Member of bands led by Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Sam Rivers, and Michael Brecker. 'The group is a nightmare journey from SoHo to Twin Peaks.' 'Music to steal for.' 'A trio that's unlike any other...All three are very strong.' ~Ran Blake--pianist, writer of Primacy of the Ear. 'Prana Trio's music unleashes strong colors which correspond with moods that range from barren rawness to lush and dense intensity. Unlike many other bands, this jazz trio of unusual instrumentation and stylistic diversity blends multi-sectional songs in a very organic way.' ~Dave Fiuczynski-- Screaming Headless Torsos. 'This music reminds me of the first time I met Charles Mingus. It doesn't really -- I just like to drop names when I can. Prana's music is very, very different from anything you may have heard before. You like adventure? This music is for you, pilgrim.' ~John McNeil-- Jazz Trumpet Player. 'Prana Trio's open ended interaction as they travel through an ever-changing sonic terrain is riveting; you hang on every note. Sunny's influences range from Bjork to Billy Holiday with lyricism and emotional presence that are all her own.' ~Dominique Eade-- Jazz Vocalist.
