Xep Training

Out of sheer joy of liberated playing, drummer Max Andrzejewski and saxophonist Johannes Schleiermacher have been meeting regularly since mid-2019 in a Berlin rehearsal room - simply to play away from their fixed ensembles.

It took them only a few training sessions, though, until they realized they had already gained a fixed repertoire again. From a casual affair, they became a steady duo, which quickly found its own language, its own way of playing and expressing jazz, post rock and electronic music: TRAINING. In addition to their "main instruments", the two as well work on synthesizers, vintage echo devices, garage organs or even their own voice. Just a few days after they first appeared on social media in their training outfits, they were invited to perform at this year's Corona edition of the Moers Jazz Festival, where they held a highly acclaimed performance.

John Dieterich of US-American Indie Rock band Deerhoof did the mastering of TRAINING's first EP at his studio. Currently he and TRAINING have been teaming up for a commissioned work for the upcoming Jazzfest Berlin, which appear as an album on Fun In The Church latter in 2021.

Until then, early adopters will have lots of fun listening to TRAINING's first EP - five tracks that are just as demanding as they are astonishingly fluent.

Besides their newly formed outfit TRAINING, Max and Johannes are also members of the internationally acclaimed jazz quartet Max Andrzejewski's Hütte, which was awarded with the Neuen Deutschen Jazzpreis (New German Jazz Award) in 2013.

Max Andrzejewski composes contemporary music for the PODIUM Festival Esslingen and is a member of French noise-rock band Abacaxi. Johannes Schleiermacher travels with his band Onom Agemo and the Disco Jumpers to Morocco to play with Gnawa musicians. He also performs with free-jazz legend Gunter Hampel, the Andromeda Meg
